Old Photos

In the absence of any more news on the church (the investigators are running out of ideas), we thought we'd share a few old photos of the Church from the inside and the outside.  They show how ornate and striking the church used to be.  For some of us, these will bring back warm memories; for others, this might be the first time we have seen the church looking like this.

First, a couple of shots of St. Mary from the outside.  Note how the towers originally were topped off.  And it looks like there might have been a fence around the roof area by the sacristy?

And here is an overall image of the inside of the church.  The painted images on the ceiling look very impressive.  And the tile floor makes a difference from our green carpet!

Here's another shot of the sanctuary, to help see the detail a little bit better.

This next picture shows the altar of the Blessed Mother.  It was located where the tabernacle currently rests.  Which makes it match the window of the Immaculate Heart above!  A beautiful St. Therese also casts her gaze over the area.

On the other side of the sanctuary was the old altar of St. Joseph, currently where the statue of our Lady rests.  Along with the St. Joseph there is the Infant Child of Prague and another saint.  Does anyone know who the other saint is?  St. Gerard, maybe?

Last is what might be the most impressive image of all.  Check out the original ambo (pulpit).  Hard to believe that that beautiful wood lies underneath!  Truly a magnificent place where the word of God is to be preached!

We do not really have any information on when these pictures were taken.  If you can help flesh out some of the details of these pictures, leave us a comment below describing them.  Certainly they show that St. Mary church has always been glorious and grand!

According to Fr. Red, the original towers rotted out, and were replaced at some point. They were pretty amazing looking, weren't they?

What happened to the original towers? The roof is different now...
