Latest News (Thursday, 7/25)

Well, we have a smattering of different updates today, with some pictures to demonstrate progress.

First of all, Pelletier Builders has brought in a crane to help remove the debris that sits on top of the scaffolding above the tabernacle.  They are accessing the area through the temporary roof that was erected above the tabernacle.

One of the first activities that was accomplished was the removal of the bricks and the wooden beam inside this damaged area.  You may remember what it looked like, where the bricks were loosely resting on a damaged steel beam.

Well, the builders carefully removed all of the bricks and the beam.  They were carted out of this area.

Yesterday, Pelletier continued the clean-up of the debris on the scaffolding.  Now, it looks much better.

Pelletier Builders also patched our fences and the wrought-iron gate that was taken down on the night of the fire in order to allow the fire trucks access to our church.  These fences may need to be permanently fixed at some later date, but they will keep out passers-by.

A couple of more shots to share.  Here are images of our rescued St. Anne in the back confessional room.

And here is the altar rail that has been relocated from the side sanctuary in front of the statue of Mary, as well as our Holy Water fonts.

And if you have seen the tapestry in that back reconciliation room, you might enjoy these pictures.  Of course, the room used to be the baptistery in the church, and a painted tapestry of the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist hangs on the curved wall.  The tapestry is original to the church, and cannot be moved without being damaged, since it has fused to the wall.  If you have seen it, it looks like this.

So you can see that something is there, but it is very difficult to make out anything.  But, once you put some light on the painting, such as with the flash of a camera, you can see the painting in "a whole new light!"
